Clean With Me Monday Challenge - Extra Vacuuming in Bedrooms

*Vacuum under bed(s) and in closet(s)

*Approximate time ~ 5-10 minutes per room

*Tips:  If you store things under your bed, remove items first and then vacuum, using wand and attachments.  If the items are too difficult for you to move, just vacuum around items.  Then remove shoes and other items on the floor of the closet and vacuum.  Be sure to get along the edges and in the corners where spiders and other critters like to "hang" out.

Personal Notes:  My mother-in-law is coming for a visit at the end of November so I'm going to be kicking things into high gear these next few weeks to make sure my house is in tip-top shape.  Many of you may also be hosting family/friends for the holidays so keep tuning in weekly and we'll make sure your home is clean, organized and ready for your guests!

Happy Cleaning :-)

Delicious Egg Salad Sandwich Recipe

About a week and a half ago, our church had a ladies' "Beau-Tea".  We had an esthetician do a quick presentation about proper skin care and then we served the ladies a "High Tea Luncheon".  As a part of the planning committee, I was assigned several things to make and one was Egg Salad Sandwiches.  I must confess that I had never made Egg Salad before and was quite nervous about making it for the first time to serve over 30 women!

For weeks, I scoured the internet looking at all kinds of recipes for egg salad, all of them boasting to be the "Best Ever".  In the end, I wound up combining elements from a couple of different recipes and came up with the recipe below.  I'm only sharing it because the ladies at the tea thought it truly was one of the BEST they've ever tasted :-)

Sharalee's Egg Salad Sandwich Recipe
Servings:  4 Sandwiches (with a generous amount of Egg Salad)

*8 hard boiled eggs
*1/2 cup mayonnaise
*1/4 cup chopped fresh chives
*1/2 tsp prepared yellow mustard
*1/2 tsp Dijon mustard
*1/4 tsp paprika
*1/8 tsp salt
*2 generous pinches of dill
*Fresh ground black pepper (I just added a light dusting...about 4 turns on my small pepper mill)
*Butter, softened (optional)
*8 bread slices

1. Peel and mash eggs; set aside.
2. Combine remaining ingredients and stir well.
3. Add eggs and gently stir to combine.
4. Optional:  Spread a very thin layer of butter on one side of each slice of bread.
5. Add a large scoop of egg salad to four slices of bread and then top with remaining bread slices, buttered side down.
6. Serve or refrigerate immediately.

*You can prepare the egg salad up to 2 days prior to serving but I recommend not putting it on the bread until the day you plan to serve it.
*Once the sandwiches are prepared, prevent the bread from drying out by placing the sandwiches on a platter with a layer of wax paper on top, followed by a damp paper towel and then seal it with seran wrap.  The damp paper towel seals in some moisture but the wax paper layer between the bread and the paper towel prevents the bread from getting soggy!

Clean With Me Monday - Garbage Disposal Drain

*Clean the underside of the drain on the garbage disposal side of the kitchen sink

*Approximate time ~ 5-10 minutes

*Tips: I think this goes without saying but make sure that the garbage disposal is turned OFF. Put on a disposable rubber or plastic glove. Then wet several paper towels with hot water. Use one paper towel at a time and carefully reach your hand through the rubber gasket on the drain and begin wiping the underside of that gasket and the drain with the paper towel. Repeat this process again and again with a clean paper towel until most all of the "gunk" has been removed. Optional: Once the "gunk" has been removed, deodorize the drain and garbage disposal by pouring a little ammonia down the drain and waiting about 15 minutes before running any water down the drain.

Personal Notes:  The first time I did this, I had been smelling an awful stench around the drain. I ran lots of water and ammonia down the drain and ran the garbage disposal but the smell lingered. So I decided to investigate further and put my hand down the drain. When I pulled my hand out, I knew immediately why my drain was so hand was covered in slimy, stinky gunk! Several paper towels later (and after a thorough hand washing:-), the drain was clean and no longer stinky.

Clean With Me Monday Challenge - Screens and Windows

*Remove and clean screens from windows in one room; clean windows and vacuum off blinds (if applicable)

*Approximate time ~ 20-30 minutes

*Tips:  Spray off screens with the hose and then stand up against the house and allow to dry before inserting back in your windows.  Open windows and clean the inside track of the windows then close and clean the glass.  For a streak-free finish, be sure not to wash the windows while they are in direct sunlight and use newspapers to dry them.

Personal Notes:  I decided to start my fall window cleaning project with our master bedroom. Since we use a fan in our bedroom window at night, the screens and inside tracks of the windows were filthy! But, after spraying off the screens and doing a quick wipe down on the windows, we are breathing easier, knowing all that dirt and dust are gone!

Happy Cleaning :-)
