Clean With Me Monday Challenge - Throw Rugs

*Wash all throw rugs in the house

*Approximate time ~ 5-10 minutes + time for 1-2 loads of laundry

*Tips:  First of all, make sure your rugs are machine washable.  If they are, shake the rugs thoroughly outside first to remove all loose dirt, hair, etc.  Then wash and dry them.  Be careful not to overload your machine.  Depending on how many throw rugs you have, you may need to do more than 1 load to clean all of the rugs.  If your rugs are not machine washable, after shaking them outside, spot clean them with an appropriate rug cleaner as necessary.

Happy Cleaning! :-)

Browse My Stash - Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hr Eyeshadows

Today, I'm sharing with you a review and swatches of the
Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hr Eyeshadows
Review:
*These are cream eye shadows that can be applied with your finger or a synthetic brush.

*Easy to blend and can be worn alone or under a powder eye shadow.

*SUPER long wearing!  When applied over a primer, they last all day without creasing.  If you don't have oily eyelids, you can skip the primer and they'll still stay put all day.

*Available in 15 shades (5 in the "Metals" collection, 10 in the regular line).  Additional "Limited Edition" colors are released periodically but are usually only found at the drugstore.

*Packaged in a glass jar with a plastic, screw-on lid.   Be sure to screw the lid back on tightly after each use to prevent the product from drying out.  I've had several for over a year and none have dried out.  Yay!

*Price:  $5.94 - $6.99

*Where To Buy:  Target, Walmart, Ulta, Walgreens or other drugstores

*Favorite, Most-Worn Colors:   Barely Branded, Bad to the Bronze, Inked in Pink (see * color swatches below)

*Summary:  It's probably rather obvious by my large collection that I really love these shadows!  My favorite way to wear them is to apply them to the main part of my eyelid, blending softly into the crease.  Then I press a powder shadow on top of the cream shadow.  By doing this, it makes lighter, more subtle shadows really pop and can also change the color/tone of the powder shadow, allowing you to create all kinds of amazing color combinations!

Clean With Me Monday Challenge - The Front Door

*Wipe down both sides of the front door to your house

*Approximate Time ~ 5-10 minutes

Tips:  Use a damp rag or paper towels to wipe down the door.  Use a Clorox wipe to clean and sanitize the handle and lock.

Personal Notes:  Many times I don't realize how dusty and dirty my door is until I open it to invite a guest in....all of a sudden it's like the dirt is magnified ten-fold and I'm trying to usher my guest in quickly before they notice!  Thankfully, my door is sparkling clean now and will make a much better presentation the next time someone drops by :-)

Happy Cleaning!

Clean With Me Monday Challenge - Pantry Cleanout

*Clean out and reorganize your pantry.

*Approximate time ~ 45 minutes +

*Tips:  Working one shelf at a time, remove everything, checking dates and throwing out expired food.  Wipe off shelves and then return items to the pantry/cabinet, reorganizing as necessary.

Personal Notes:  My pantry cleanout turned into a slightly bigger project and I ended up reorganizing several other cupboards in my kitchen as well.  I had several things being stored in my pantry that didn't belong there so I had to clear out other cupboards in my kitchen to make room for these items.  Take a look at how much was crammed into my pantry....

It took me several hours and my back was KILLING, but the end result was worth it.....

Browse My Stash - NYX Lip Liners Review and Swatches

Since I have become somewhat of a "collector" of makeup, I've been trying to figure out a way to have my collection benefit more people than just me :-)  So I came up with the idea of doing a series called "Browse My Stash".  I will focus each blog on a specific brand and/or product from that brand, share my thoughts on the product and then finish with swatches of all the colors that I own.  So whether you are shopping online or in a store that won't let you "try before you buy", perhaps this information will help make your decision easier.

Today, you'll be browsing my stash of
NYX Lip Liners

There are two different types of lip liners that NYX sells:

Retractable Lip Liners (pictured above on the left)
*No sharpening needed
*Advertised as "waterproof" and I'd say that's pretty accurate.  Once they set, it takes a lot of scrubbing to get them off.
*Retail Price - $4.50
*Available in 19 colors
*Favorite and Most Worn Color:  Natural (see swatch with * below)

Slim Lip Pencil (pictured above on the right)
*Traditional pencil that needs to be sharpened
*Good color payoff and decent staying power (not quite as good as the retractable liners)
*Retail Price - $3.50
*HUGE array of colors available - 60 to be exact :-)
*Favorite and Most Worn Colors:  Peekaboo Neutral, Mauve, Natural, Nutmeg (see swatches with * below)

Where to Buy:  Ulta stores or online at Ulta.com, NYXcosmetics.com

Summary:  Overall, I highly recommend both types NYX lip liners.  They are great quality and really affordable....especially if you purchase them when Ulta has the NYX products on sale like they are right NOW - Buy One Get One 50% off!  Offer ends 07/27/13!

And, just in case you are shopping online, here are swatches of the colors I own to help give you a better idea of the colors.  These photos were taken in natural daylight and swatched on my hand.  Keep in mind that the colors will appear slightly different when combined with your natural lip color.

NYX Retractable Lip Liner - 01 Natural*
Description: Light nude/tan
*Favorite, hands down, especially when doing a nude lip look! I've gone through one whole pencil already...definitely a color I'll repurchase!

NYX Retractable Lip Liner - 02 Nectar
Description: Warm medium pink with a pearlescent finish

NYX Retractable Lip Liner - 17 Cocoa
Description:  Medium warm/reddish brown

NYX Slim Lip Pencil - 854 Pale Pink
Description: Pale cool-toned pink with a lavender undertone

NYX Slim Lip Pencil - 849 Beige
Description:  Very light tan with slightly peachy-pink undertones and pearlescent finish

NYX Slim Lip Pencil -  857 Nude Beige
Description:  Light tan with very slight pinkish hue
*Now that I used up my retractable pencil in "Natural", this will be my pencil of choice for a nude lip.

NYX Slim Lip Pencil - 860 Peekaboo Neutral*
Description:  Medium warm neutral pink

NYX Slim Lip Pencil - 810 Natural*
Description:  Medium rosy tan
*This is my "go-to" color when I don't know what color of lipstick/gloss I want to wear....goes with almost anything!

NYX Slim Lip Pencil - 831 Mauve*
Description:  Medium neutral rosy tan
*A new favorite....works great with all ranges of colors from nudes to pinks

NYX Slim Lip Pencil - 811 Nutmeg*
Description:  Medium warm brown

NYX Slim Lip Pencil - 820 Espresso
Description:  Dark cool-tone brown

NYX Slim Lip Pencil - 843 Citrine
Description:  Medium warm pink with pearlescent finish

NYX Slim Lip Pencil - 856 Sand Pink
 Description:  Super bright, warm pink

NYX Slim Lip Pencil - 844 Deep Red

NYX Slim Lip Pencil - 834 Prune
Description:  Deep violet

Hope you enjoyed that and it proved helpful to you!

Clean With Me Monday Challenge - Spices and Cabinets

*Clean out and re-organize the spice shelf/cupboard; wipe down the kitchen cabinets and drawers

*Approximate time ~ 30-45 minutes

*Tips:  Start by removing all of the spices from their storage place (i.e., cupboard, rack, etc.).  Discard any spices that are expired.  If you are unsure whether they are still good, open them and take a sniff....if there is only a faint scent and/or the spices are caked together inside the container, toss them. Next, fill your sink with hot, soapy water (Dawn Antibacterial Apple Blossom is my favorite :-).  Use a rag dipped in the soapy water to wipe down the shelf/rack thoroughly.  Return the spices you are keeping to the shelf, wiping off each one before putting them in the cabinet.  Then, using your rag and warm soapy water, wipe down each cabinet door, inside and out, along with the handles and the surrounding edges of the base cabinets.  Do the same with all of the drawers and the front of your dishwasher as well.

Personal Notes:  To help make the spices in my cabinet a little easier to see, I purchased a $4 wire spice rack from Walmart.  While it doesn't hold all of my spices, it was big enough to arrange all of my baking spices on one half of my shelf and then I was able to neatly cram the rest of my spices on the other half of the shelf :-).  And let me tell you how amazing clean cabinets look!  It's amazing what a difference a quick wipe down can do for the overall appearance of your kitchen.

Happy Cleaning everyone!

Clean With Me Monday Challenge - The Linen Closet (Before and After Pictures!)

*Clean out an reorganize the linen closet

*Approximate Time ~ 1-2 hours

*Tips: Begin by removing everything from the closet, clearing off one shelf at a time. Determine what needs to be tossed, donated and saved. Wipe off the shelves (another great time to pull out those Clorox wipes :-). Once the shelves are dry, put everything you are keeping back in the closet. If you find that there is wasted space between shelves and you find you are stacking items on top of each other, consider adding more shelving by using stand-alone wire shelves. I purchased a pack of 3 for less than $10 at Walmart (found in the kitchen utensils section). If you have towels that are in good shape but you no longer need, take them to your local animal shelter. Most animal shelters have a HUGE need for towels and will welcome your donation!

Personal Notes:  As you can see from these "Before" pictures, my linen closet was a jumbled mass of chaos.....

When I finally pulled everything out, I discovered a mountain of old towels that my local animal shelter was thrilled to receive, hot rollers that haven't been used in a "coon's age" and all sorts of goodies that are going to find a new home elsewhere. Once the sorting was done, I added 3 wire shelves to help better utilize the space and look at what a difference a little clean out can make....

Happy Cleaning! :-)
