Favorite Fruit Filled Salad

As the weather gets warmer, I start thinking of meals I can fix that don't require me to turn on the oven or the stove.  Salads are an obvious choice but can get a bit boring.  So I did a little experimenting, combining flavors of various salads my friend Laura and cousin Carey fixed and voila!  Our new favorite salad and, by the way, what we're having for dinner

  • Mixed Greens (the darker greens are best, such as spinach, arugula, etc.)
  • Apple cut into large chunks (I prefer Gala apples for this)
  • Sliced Strawberries
  • Dried cranberries
  • Feta Cheese
  • Candied Pecans (Cinnamon Almonds are also great!)
  • Raspberry Vinaigrette ("Fresh & Easy" brand is awesome if you have one of those stores in your area)

Just toss it all together, drizzle with dressing and serve immediately!  YUMMM!

Do You Have Moxie?

When I first learned that Bare Escentuals would no longer be selling their "Buxom" lipglosses in their stores and that Sephora would be the exclusive retailer for this lipgloss, I was a bit surprised because it was such a popular lipgloss.  Then I learned that Bare Escentuals had a brand new line in the works called "Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss", and I couldn't wait for them to come out!

I'll admit that part of the intrigue for me was in the name....."Moxie".  I've always loved that word which is defined as "courage; nerve; vigor; pep" and is synonymous with "gumption, grit, backbone & guts".

When this new line of glosses was released this Spring, I couldn't wait to get my hands on them!  Thus far I've purchased two of them in the colors "Rockstar" (this came in a kit offered through QVC) and "Smooth Talker".  Now some of you might be thinking, "Can they really be that different than their other lipglosses?"  I'm here to tell you they are!

The texture is somewhat similiar to the Buxom lipglosses, slightly sticky at first but then settles into your lips nicely.  They give amazing shine and smell wonderful....a mixture of vanilla and peppermint.  They have a slight tingling feel on the lips but not quite as much as the "Buxom" lipglosses.  They also include a wonderful new type of "doe foot applicator" that is more flat and slightly pointed, making it easy to apply and control so you don't end up with "gloppy" lips.

Interestingly enough, when I looked up "moxie", I found out that the word can be dated back to 1876 when it was used as the name of a patent medicine advertised to "build up your nerve".  While I know these glosses don't contain any true "medicinal" properties that will give you guts and gumption, who's to say that a girl doesn't feel a bit more confident when she knows her lips are looking and feeling fabulous?!
